Traditional Japanese shima kasuri cotton. Artisan made. Hand woven striped ikat fabric. The indigo is deep and rich. I appears almost black, but it is deep blue with brown/yellow, red white stripes.

Japanese ikat is renowned for its high quality. This piece is in excellent condition, almost as new. There are some holes around the half-way mark of the length, as shown. Thick, strong and sturdy. An excellent example of Japanese folk textiles of the early 20th century.
