Shima is a traditional Japanese striped woven ikat. A wonderfully rich vintage indigo textile. Highly collectible. Artisan made. Hand dyed, hand loomed ikat cotton. Superior quality. Natural botanical indigo dye. Japanese ikat is renowned for its high quality. This piece is in good vintage condition. There is a pink mark and also a small lump of white cotton that has been pulled out of the weave. It is a cut piece with a selvedge edge on one side only.

This is a great example of Japanese traditional boro utilitarian textiles. High quality cotton fabric was treasured by the peasant class and reused over and over again in clothing and domestic textiles.
