Japanese antique shima dating back to early to mid 1900s. Shima is a traditional Japanese striped woven ikat. A wonderfully rich vintage indigo textile. Highly collectible. Artisan made. Hand dyed, hand loomed ikat cotton. Superior quality. Natural botanical dye, the main one being indigo. Japanese ikat is renowned for its high quality. This piece is in excellent condition, as new.

This is a great example of Japanese traditional boro utilitarian textiles. High quality cotton fabric was treasured by the peasant class and reused over and over again in clothing and domestic textiles.
