Vintage traditional Japanese apron, known as maekake in Japanese. Both men and women wear these aprons.
Very hard wearing. The cotton is very thick. Good for the workshop, studio, garage, kitchen or grilling in the garden.
It has been dyed with the tsutsugaki technique. A paste is applied by hand before dipping in indigo dye.

Vintage/new maekake are worn by Japanese today and are associated with any kind of business wishing to express an affinity to traditional Japan, but are the most visible in restaurants, bars, markets stalls, etc.

The symbol is a company logo with the name of the company underneath. This one is Higeta Soy Sauce company.

The white areas have yellowed a little with age and have some brown marks. Apron is reversible, same on both sides.
