Japanese antique e-gasuri / picture ikat dating back to early to mid 1900s. A wonderfully rich antique indigo textile. Picture ikat is rare and very highly collectible. Artisan made. Hand dyed, hand loomed ikat cotton. Superior quality. Natural botanical dye, the main one being indigo.

It was likely once part of a garment or futon cover. There is a fluff residue of cotton on the reverse which must have come from the lining of the original piece. This can be removed easily.

This is a great example of Japanese traditional boro utilitarian textiles. High quality cotton fabric was treasured by the peasant class and reused over and over again in clothing and domestic textiles. For more information on boro click here:
