Artisan made. Hand loomed. Natural dye. Japanese egasuri cotton textile. Egasuri is extremely rare and collectible. Vintage, dating back to Taisho era. Early 1900s.

Kasuri is the Japanese word for ikat. E is the word for picture. When the words are combined it is pronounced egasuri meaning picture ikat. The cotton threads are dyed in natural indigo and woven into auspicious pictures. This one has flowers (probably cherry or plum blossom), cranes and flowing water.

Good vintage condition. There is some light discoloration at the ends. It has been machine washed on a cool setting, air dried and ironed. It has a little stiffness that will soften with further washing.

Use in a quilt, table runner, cushion cover, wall hanging, etc.
