Traditional Japanese boro* kasuri cotton. Artisan made. Hand loomed ikat fabric. Deep indigo dye. So deep it is black.

Japanese ikat is renowned for it's high quality. This piece is very thick and sturdy yet soft with a good texture.

There are two holes at the edges and a split into one edge. It was likely once part of a kimono.

*Boro is a highly collectible Japanese folk textile. This is an excellent example of Japanese utilitarian boro used around the home. In Japan, cotton was highly prized among the peasant class as a warmer alternative to hemp. Indigo dye was the best natural dye available to use with cotton. Indigo cotton became a quintessential Japanese fabric that was never thrown away and always reused.
