Vintage Japanese artisan made textile. Hand dyed with indigo. Shibori dying technique. It is a long piece sewn into a ring.

Condition is absolutely excellent. The dye is rich and deep. There are a few small rust-like marks on one side.

Length: 126cm / 49.6" (sewn into a ring, 63m /24.8")
Width: 32cm / 12.6"

Intended for use as diapers. A shibori of this quality would have been used by a wealthy family. I can assure you that the textile is clean and unused!

Wear it as an infinity scarf. Make it into a cushion. Attach it to a canvas as a wall hanging.

This is a highly collectible folk textile. An excellent example of Japanese utilitarian boro used around the home. In Japan, cotton was highly prized among the peasant class as a warmer alternative to hemp. Indigo dye was the best natural dye available to use with cotton. Indigo cotton became a quintessential Japanese fabric that was never thrown away and always reused.
