Vintage / antique Japanese arimatsu-narumi shibori kimono.

This is an artisan dyed textile. Natural indigo dyed cotton.

This shibori technique involved threads sewn through the fabric and then pulled tight to form wrinkles to resist the dye before dipping.

Very light linen / hemp. Unlined.

Excellent vintage condition. There are some pale brown marks on the lower collar panel. Rather than stains, I think these are discoloration of the dye with age. If worn traditionally, an obi would cover these. If worn unconventionally with the right side wrapped over the left then very little would show.

This is quite a rare and interesting find. A textile of this quality would originally have been extremely expensive.

Measurements take laying flat:

Length: 147cm / 57.8"
Width, across the back: 60cm / 23.6"
Cuff to cuff, across the back: 120cm / 47.2"
