Exciting find! Two in one. Japanese antique boro textile of early 1900s. Artisan made.

Made up of an number of interesting fabrics sewn together with sashiko.

Length: 122cm / 48" (Sewn into a ring, 61cm / 24")
Width: 33cm / 13"

One fabric is an artisan woven ikat cotton in white and black dots. This type is known as yukinko due to its very fine, dotted weave. The other fabrics are three different pieces of high quality aizome indigo cotton.

In a few short steps this could be a fantastic cushion cover.

It is a ring of fabric open on the long edges. Measurements are laying flat. Double for the full amount of fabric.

This is a highly collectible folk textile. An excellent example of Japanese utilitarian boro used around the home. In Japan, cotton was highly prized among the peasant class as a warmer alternative to hemp. Indigo dye was the best natural dye available to use with cotton. Indigo cotton became a quintessential Japanese fabric that was never thrown away and always reused.
