Shima is a traditional Japanese striped woven ikat. A wonderfully rich antique indigo textile. Highly collectible. Artisan made. Hand dyed, hand loomed ikat cotton. Superior quality. Natural botanical dye, the main one being indigo. It was likely once part of a garment or futon cover.

This is a great example of Japanese traditional boro utilitarian textiles. High quality cotton fabric was treasured by the peasant class and reused over and over again in clothing and domestic textiles. For more information on boro click here:
