Vintage Japanese artisan made textile. Lined shibori cotton with sashiko stitching. Wear it as an infinity scarf. Make it into a cushion. Attach it to a canvas as a wall hanging. Dismantle the textile and use the fabric supply.

Width: 32cm / 12.5"

Hand dyed with indigo. Shibori dying technique. Lined with soft white cotton. Condition is absolutely excellent. The dye is rich and deep and there are no marks, stains or discolored parts.

Intended for use as diapers. A shibori of this quality would have been used by a wealthy family. I can assure you that the textile is clean and unused!

This is a highly collectible folk textile. An excellent example of Japanese utilitarian boro used around the home. In Japan, cotton was highly prized among the peasant class as a warmer alternative to hemp. Indigo dye was the best natural dye available to use with cotton. Indigo cotton became a quintessential Japanese fabric that was never thrown away and always reused.
